Homework & Test Study Tips
It is recommended that children in the 4th grade spend approximately 30-40 minutes each evening doing homework. When possible this time should be spent with a parent/guardian, rather than with the child working
alone. Different students work at varied speeds; therefore, not everyone will be bringing home the same amount of homework. Below is a guideline of suggested study topics to do each evening to help study for tests, to work on after the regular homework is complete, or to do in place of homework for those who are already finished.
Weekly Homework
Reading: Inside the small group reading folder, the students are given a form to keep track of their reading homework each week. The goal is to read and complete the assigned reading response log four nights out of a week. The students will receive a grade in reading for the completion of the reading response log.
Math: Students will have math homework each night Monday through Thursday. This will also include periodically studying for tests and quizzes. Students are also required to master multiplication and division. They will be required to practice nightly.
Spelling: Weekly spelling tests are given. Students will need to spend time each night practicing spelling words.
Social Studies / Science: Students will need to study periodically for tests and quizzes. Ask to see the study guides! They will always have something to use for studying these subjects.
